VR gastroscopy training and assessment platform

DEFT-MD is a clinically led immersive learning and assessment platform designed to support continuing medical education in gastroscopy. The system combines VR training, eye-tracking data and a supporting learning management platform to help clinicians develop diagnostic skills and improve recognition of gastrointestinal pathologies.

We contributed to a first-of-its-kind integrated training workflow that recreates the gastroscopy experience in virtual reality and captures performance data for review. The platform was deployed across 16 Meta Quest Pro headsets for trials at multiple UK locations.

The project has also contributed to academic work presented through ESGE Days 2025 and GIE Journal.
